Festival Miradas de Mujeres (Through women’s eyes) is an initiative of MAV, Women in the Visual Arts, a non-profit and interprofessional association of state-level formed by 400 professionals in the plastic arts sector in Spain.
The main purpose of Festival Miradas de Mujeres, created in 2012 by Mareta Espinosa, is to disseminate the role of women within all professional ambits of visual arts, from artistic creation to curatorship, criticism, research and management.
With this aim, the Festival invites museums, galleries, art centres and universities to join with exhibitons and activities of women artists during the month of March, with the object of bring together the largest number of exhibitions starred by women and occupy the exhibition calendar of this month, at national level and, from this year, also international.
- Metrópolis - Miradas de Mujeres
In the last edition Festival Miradas de Mujeres 2013 brought together 215 venues in 13 regions: 118 institutional spaces and 97 private galleries, with 380 activities. It showed and communicated the work of more than 800 women artists, art critics, curators and researchers.
The most work to set in motion this big national event was done voluntarily, by MAV members), configuring a network of self-organized professionals able to collaborate at state level.
The media impact was very important, reaching all kinds of media (television, radio, specialised and general press, internet and social networks), covering all the national territory.
